Hybrid means mixture of two totally different things to form a new thing. This term is frequently used in scientific experiments. In a recent research carried out by British scientists, they have produced and grown a hybrid which comprises of human embryo along with animal one, and is called human-animal hybrid embryo. This has been produced in three different laboratories namely King’s College, London, Newcastle University, Warwich University.

This is an approach to look for the cure for many of the lethal diseases for which medical science has presently no cure at all. For this, they had admixed 155 embryos containing both human and animal genetic material.  These embryos have been created since the introduction of Human Fertilization Embryology Act in 2008.

Such techniques can also be used for the production of stem cells too. These experiments are very cost effective and require grants of millions, provided by government, for the research work to be continued. They are also concerned about the social and ethical issues, but if the work continues till the end, it will be a milestone in this field.
