According to a recent survey, excessive playing of video games and computer games can generate a greater risk of obesity, aggressive and violent behavior. It is mainly seen in children and teenagers.

A recent survey by Assocham’s Social Development Foundation (SDF) reveals that over 82 percent of teenagers spend an average of 14-16 hours per week playing games on computer, web portal or consoles and about 7 percent of children surveyed qualified as being pathological video gamers. In the above survey about 84% of children said that they play violent games when they are alone at home. 76% prefer to play action games and 45% of gamers also had similar addiction, are also more likely to have a video game system in their bedrooms.

A survey also revealed that 23% of teenager feel “addicted to video games”, with about one-third of males (26%) and a little more than one in ten females (11%) feeling addicted. For most teens, gaming is a social activity and a major component of their overall social activity. But actually the addiction plays a negative role casing obesity and developing violent behavior. It can also lead to poorer school performance due to time spent on gaming.
